Take Control Of Your Reputation

by on July 1st, 2010

Henry Ford Took Control Of His Reputation

In today’s world of information overload and never being quite sure what to believe, building your reputation has become more important then ever before.  In the past if you became a ‘bad’ person, you could just get on your high-horse and trot out of town.  But today there are few ways to escape your past.  Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others all store persistence information that your great grandchildren will be able to search for and find.

So what do you do about it?  How do you build a successful reputation that will help fend off the inevitable human condition causing mistakes to happen?   Henry Ford once said “You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.”  you must build you reputation through conscious action.  Not by thinking about them, but by doing them!

It’s nice enough to think about taking out the trash on time.  Telling your neighbor you will get it to the curb by the morning is fine.  So long as you get it there.

The first thing you want to avoid when building your reputation is not to speak hollow words that let people down.  The honesty of your words is one of the few things you can always control.  You must protect that.  If you make a habit of not following through on things you say you will, then you lose trust in people.  Some might even say you lie, and that can be hard to fix.

The good news is that you can always choose to control what you say, and what you do.  You have the power to fully control your reputation.  Rather then being the person who is going to do something, be the person always doing something.  Get in the habit of staying busy and you will both become more productive and increase the value of your reputation.

The next question is … What are you going to do about it??

If you find that hard to answer, then break it apart into thing you should probably stop doing.  If you’re one to talk a lot but take little action, there is a good chance you have a reputation of not following through with things.  The fastest way to start a change is to stop talking so much.  with 2 ears and 1 mouth you should listen twice as much as you talk. Slow down and think about words before you say them and ask yourself  “Am I really going to do this?”  if not, stop talking right there.

Make the change in you mind, and take action on what you say.

Don’t wait, act!

A Review of “The Traveler’s Gift” – Andy Andrews

by on June 20th, 2010
The Traveler's Gift - Andy Andrews

Quite probably the best and easily the most inspiring book I have ever read. “The Travelers Gift” by Andy Andrews has been lent or given to several of my friends and family with every one of them stating how inspiring the book is to get up and take control of your own destiny.

The Travelers gift is fun story that starts with a very easy to relate to family with very common problems and worries that in some way, at some time in our lives, we have somehow experienced or are currently living through. Many people live with a either a fear of losing a job or working for one they don’t like. Many people have fears and worries about how they will provide for their family, friends, and partner.

The story uses time travel in much the same way it’s used in “A Christmas Carol” with Ebenezer Scrooge visiting different times and possibilities. The difference with “the Travelers Gift” is you visit history changing events and speak with several well known people such as King Solomon while deciding who the correct mother is of a child, Christopher Columbus while still on a boat in the middle of the ocean still looking for land, Ann Rice while in hiding from the Jew killing Nazi’s, and several others key events in history. You’re taken through the methods of thought and actions taken that created the history we know from these epic events.

Each little story within the story reveals a powerful message of abundance and when carried together hold the secret to leading a fulfilling abundant life.

Every action you take is a personal choice. The real question is weather this choice is conscious or unconscious. Once you’ve chosen to make your life filled with accomplished dreams, the only thing holding you are the choices you make and the actions you take.

The Travelers Gift helps bring all of this into perspective in merely 140 pages of large print.

I give this book My Highest recommendation. Making “The Traveler’s Gift” required reading in the school systems around the ages of 12-15 could help create more inspired, better focused children, better armed to fight the personal battles we all inevitably face that hold us back while living our lives.

Go on — Seek Wisdom. :)

Changing Your Life by Overcoming Obstacles While Beating Fear

Leading you Down the Garden Path at Hidcote Ma...

Have You ever felt so tired, so frustrated that you just want to quit? “Screw it, I’m done!”? Then at the same time you realize you can’t stop without abandoning your goals and dreams. You remain still, paralyzed by confusion as your doubts and fears take control of your destiny. You may know what needs changing in your life, but you’re scared of overcoming the obstacles. You’re out of gas. You’re burnt out, tired, frustrated, and wondering where that “easy street” is people keep talking about. How life will be different in a new direction.

We all go through these feelings from time to time – it’s normal. It’s how you deal with controversy that determines what controls your future. It’s not about how often you fall, but how far you travel. When will you cast aside your doubts and fears and design your future through your lofty aspirations and optimism changing your life for the better? Change happens in an instant, it’s just a decision but the effects continue on for a lifetime. Make the change to consciously be accountable for the path you’ve chosen to walk down. Beat your fears by not making excuses that circumstances got in the way. Everyone has those everyday – even highly successful people. The show must go on! Now is never a good time until you make it important enough to demand results.  Remember, this is your future life we’re discussing here.  What do you want from your life?

Consciously changing your life for the better is hard work. Fear of hard work is laziness.  Are you going to be lazy beating fear down, preventing you from overcoming obstacles that lie in front of you to change your life?
“Screw you fear, I’m better then you, and I will beat you down!”

Then Fear knocked on the Door.
Faith Answered.
No one was there!

How unexpected, the door opens to a beautiful new world with an abundance you only imagined you could know. But there it is, full out in from of you just one step away. It turns out that there wasn’t a wall of knowledge after all, but merely a challenge to overcome with education and effort. …And that hard work thing, it seems like as much effort as ‘packing the car for a weekend vacation’, when you work towards something you love. The effort is tiny compared to the happiness gained on the other side. Perhaps you can even learn to love doing that little bit of work because you love the rewards it provides so much. (Like the smile on grandma’s face while cooking with the grandchildren.)

The difference between ‘making it’ and being ‘average’ is not being afraid to take that one extra step into change. It’s the last step to achieve what you’ve been wanting to do for years, but fear, hard work, and knowledge appeared as obstacles in your way. But now, since you chose to see these merely as challenges along your path of change, you found your courage — your reason “why” — to overcome obstacles without fear. Like a tree blocking your path to freedom, you climb over the challenge and carry on.  You now Embrace the next obstacle in your path because you now understand that each challenge makes you grow stronger along the way. Fear only has as much power as you give it. Give fear nothing.

And there you are, standing on the doorstep of change.
When are you going to take that step that changes your life?
start a conversation, and take action.
